Curly hair: assess the shape after your curl springs back
Curly hair can reveal a different length and shape as it dries and springs back. It is therefore important to discuss the intended silhouette in the way you normally wear your curls. A measurement in centimetres does not tell the whole story.
Discuss the dry shape
Show your natural curl and explain how you normally care for it. A wet or stretched lock may look longer than the form you later see in the mirror. In a reference, focus on the final outline.
Explain whether you want a rounder form, less width, length near the face or a more compact top. This gives a clearer goal than a general desired length.
Allow for spring-back
Ask how the chosen length can be assessed once your curl returns dry. When unsure, discuss the shape in stages so you do not remove more than intended.
Curls in different places can react differently. Point out which zones should look shorter, longer, lighter or fuller after the hair dries.
Match the cut to your care routine
Explain what you do at home: air-dry, use a diffuser, comb or work only with fingers. The haircut needs to suit that process, not a routine you do not want to follow.
Afterwards, ask how to assess the form once you dry it in your normal routine. That first review after your own care is useful for the next appointment.
