Undercut: deliberately choosing a disconnected top
An undercut deliberately keeps a difference between the longer top and shorter sides. The sections do not have to blend smoothly together. That may be exactly the intended effect, but it is a different choice from simply asking for short sides.
Show when the edge may be visible
When you sweep the top aside or tie it back, the boundary may become prominent. Show both positions: loose and in your usual styling. Ask how high the short area will extend and where the longer hair begins.
Keep length where you use it
If you want to sweep or gather the top backwards, discuss the useful length needed. A small change at the front corners can leave pieces unable to join the rest.
Do not simply retain the top without discussing its weight. A heavy edge may hang over the shorter area; explain whether you like that or want a lighter fall.
Think ahead if you want a connected shape later
A strong disconnection cannot always become a longer blended side in one tidy-up. The short area needs to gain length first, or the top has to become shorter.
If you are already growing it out, mention that now. Your barber can discuss which short sections should not be fully reset again.
