Straight hair: using growth direction for an intentional shape
Straight hair often shows an outer line, parting and growth direction clearly. Small length changes can therefore create a different effect. A useful conversation is about how your hair falls naturally, not just a haircut name.
Follow or deliberately challenge the natural direction
Show where your hair grows forwards, sideways or upwards. A parting that follows that direction may need little work; another direction can be a deliberate styling choice. Both are possible if you include the daily effort.
With a front turn, ask whether enough length must remain to let it lie down. Cutting shorter does not automatically solve a strong growth direction.
Discuss the visible lines
On straight hair, the fringe, outline and transition are often easy to read. Explain whether you want a crisp line, soft edge or looser movement. A reference with lots of product can hide those lines differently from your dry hair.
For a middle or side part, look at the back as well. A straight front line does not need to be forced through the crown.
Choose styling for the effect you want
Explain whether you want shine, texture or volume. Light styling can give straight hair a very different surface, but product should not hide a poor cut. The shape should make sense before a heavy layer is added.
At the end, test whether you can arrange the form yourself. This reveals the actual direction and product amount your routine needs.
