How much to cut off: agree on a visible length
The same amount feels very different at different lengths. The conversation becomes clearer when you talk from visible retention and shape.
Point out your boundary
Show the minimum length you want to retain, for example at the front or top. Also say where bulk may come off without changing that boundary.
Separate top, sides and edge
You can want to keep length on top and take the sides shorter. Name those areas separately so “off” is not one unclear instruction.
Ask to check during the appointment
